These delectable patisserie pastries, filled with cheese and baked to golden perfection, offer a warm and satisfying snack with a flaky, buttery texture.

Ingredients

  1. 250 grams of room temperature butter or margarine
  2. 2.5 cups of warm water
  3. 1 packet of fresh yeast
  4. 5 tablespoons of sugar
  5. 1 tablespoon of salt
  6. 2 egg whites (the yolks will be reserved for brushing on top)
  1. As much flour as needed (to be added gradually)

For the filling:

Instructions

  1. Place warm water, yeast, and sugar into a mixing bowl and stir.
  2. Add room temperature butter, egg whites, and salt, and mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and knead until you get a slightly sticky dough.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour.
  5. Transfer the risen dough to a work surface and knead a little more.
  6. Divide the dough into 18 pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Flatten each ball slightly with your hand, place some cheese in the center, and close it up.
  7. Shape the dough by pressing the center lightly with the side of your hand.
  8. Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rest for 20-25 minutes for a second rise.
  9. Brush the tops with the reserved egg yolk.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) until they are nicely golden brown on the top and bottom.
