Vons Marathon Day 1

by Beth on July 9, 2008

Today was my first trip, this was not the prettiest trip I have ever made but I am OK with it.

I bought:

2 Jars of Ragu $1.79×2= $3.58 I used a $1 off 2 coupon =$1.58

2 Pouches of Ragu $ 1.79×2=$3.58 I used a $1 off 2 coupon this did not double=$2.58

Marzetti Blue Cheese $3.00-$1 coupon doubled=$1.00

2 boxes of Poptarts and 2 boxes of Frosted Flakes $5.00 Each on the front of the store ad was a coupon for 4 for $6= total $6.00

Special K bars 3.00 I used a $1 off coupon doubled =$1.00

3 boxes of Kleenex $1.50 each = $4.5

McCorrmic Garlic $1.99-.25 coupon doubled=1.49

2 six packs of Coke I used a coupon from the Front of the ad for $1.5 each with CRV total=$3.6

Hansens Grapefruit$2.00 + CRV= $2.30 – I made a mistake on this one, I had a coupon that would have made it better…

Bag o Salad $2.5 I used a $1 coupon final cost .50

Chex Mix $1.99 I used this coupon to make it free

Jolly Time popcord $1.99 I used this coupon to make it free.

Spray n Wash is $2.50 I used this coupon to make it $1

2 toaster strudels for 2.5 each I used this coupon to make them $1.5 each

2 Green Giant in a box veggies $2.00 each I used this coupon to make them $1.4 each

I paid $31.05 out of pocket I saved $59.95 for a total of 67%

I was supposed to get a $20 off my next order but I only got a $10 off your next order.  This is how I handled it.

I made sure the shift manager was checking me out, so I would not have to wait for the manager.  Before she started scanning, I proudly told her that I had bought 25 items and I made sure the store shelf confirmed they were all part of the special.  At that point she replied that I was the first shopper who did that and we will see if it works or not.  So when it did not work, she asked me to step aside and wait a moment.

She came up to me, and said this always happens the first few days, and handed me a store gift card for the difference.  She also kept a copy of me receipt to review it and find the product that did not trigger the coupon for the full amount.  She was supper nice, I told her I would be back tomorrow and she said "great I will see you them".

One more thing, I am sorry for the lack of post the last few days I have the worst hay fever.  Hence the three boxes of Kleenex.

I am off to quilt now, see you all tomorrow.

Great job! And it was smart to talk to the manager right away. Seems like they always have trouble with these promos.

Please consider sharing your scenario at my Mr. Linky at:

I really want to encourage everyone to take advantage of these big sales, and seeing examples with coupons helps.

Great!
How does “doubling” work? Does the register automatically multiply the coupon value for the number of times you bought the item, or do you have to ask the cashier to do it? Either way, do you know if Dominick’s has the same policy?

My store doubles all coupons up to a $1.00 so if your coupon is for $1.5 it will become $2.5. If it is .75 then it would be $1.5.

Also only the first coupon will double, meaning if you buy two of the same product and use two of the same coupons only one will double.

The only time this will not happen is if the coupon says do not double and the first number is the bar code is a 9.

If the first number in the bar code is a 5 it will double without you doing anything.

I would say yes that Dominicks has the same policy, but to be sure look on the very bottom of the last page of your ad, it will be spelled out there.
