Let me ask you one question…in the month of October how much money did you spend on gas? Do you think you could tell me down to the penny?
So let me tell you about my Aunt Sue, at any time I can look at her and say “What did you spend on clothes this year?” and she would be able to rattle off some number. She knew where almost every penny is spent, and I always wanted to be able to do that but I never thought I would be able to.
Now that has all changed, ladies and gentlemen let me introduce you to a wonderful website called Mint.com. First off Mint.com is free, next it’s now owned by Intuit the same people who own Turbo Tax so they are completely safe. What you do is register, then enter your bank account info, don’t worry your info is safe. Then mint.com does the rest.
Mint.com will pull in all of your information from your bank account, and create a pie chart on where your money is going. I can’t begin to tell you how sobering it is, when you see how much money your car is really costing you a month. Once you start to see your spending in chart form, it really gets you thinking before you make that next purchase.
If your family is like mine, there is one person who pays the bills and spends most of the money (me) then there is the other person who does not really know where the money goes (husband) and once in a while he will go out and that I am not aware of. Well once I showed him the chart, he was shocked to see where all of our money goes, and now he is on board about where we spend our money.
So now you need to stop reading Greenstew, and go register for Mint.com.
Oh-ya, I spend $222.67 on gas in the month of October.
